Adult Classes
Karate training develops the body, the mind and spirit through learning basic techniques (kihon), forms that represent self-defense (kata), practice with partners and sparring (kumite). Classes can burn 700 calories an hour and engage all major muscle groups. Training also develops an increased mental concentration and incorporates intentional breathing and meditation. Anyone can begin training karate at any age or fitness level.
Classes typically begin with warm up exercises, then training basic techniques (blocks, kicks, punches, etc.). Students may practice forms, or kata, a series of set movements designed to defend against imaginary attackers. Partner work is also an important component of training, during which students work with each other to develop their blocking and counter-striking in a controlled setting.
