The University of South Alabama held the annual Karate Training Camp the weekend of October 16 – 18 in Mobile, AL. The ASKF Collegiate Tournament was held on Saturday, October 17, with competitors from USA and LSU. This was the 34th year of the camp. There were about 70 people attending this year’s camp representing clubs in Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, and Alabama. Mr. Mikami has been the lead instructor since the first camp. It was a great opportunity to train with others from the region, meet new people, and train with a great instructor. The camp focuses on basic training techniques and timing. The last day of training, Sensei covered self-defense moves and releases.

Sensei Mikami visited Mexico City from September 11-14, 2009. This visit was organized by JKA WF Mexico, under the direction of Juan Manuel Mondragon, a JKA 3rd Dan, in conjunction with other instructors. The JKA WF Mexico is an affiliated member of JKA American Federation and is an organization fully recognized by the JKA, Japan. Sensei’s visit started at the Club Naval Alencastre in Mexico City. There were around one hundred attendees of different ranks and ages. The sojourn started with two clinics on 11 of November. The attendees were divided in different groups for training. The following day started with a Dan examination session followed by two more clinics and group photo session. On Sunday the 13th, Sensei Mikami traveled to the city of San Luis Potosi, where he visited the University of San Luis Potosi. He was received by the Director of Sport and given a tour of the facilities. A general clinic was given for all levels as well as one for brown and black belts. There were about 50 attendees. Sensei expressed his desire to organize in the future events that all JKA American Federation members can attend and train together. Sensei would like to thank JKA WF Mexico for their hospitality during his visit and wishes for a strong and successful future for the organization under the guidance of the Japan Karate Association, Japan.
